Athletic Club KC Academy Win to Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
The Athletic Club KC Academy got an exceptional performance from starter Dorian Gunther, who silenced the Asheville offense en route to a 8-0 shutout win in Game 2 of the 3L AA Championship today. The Highlanders could never get a bead on the right-handed Gunther, who threw 8 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The Athletic Club KC Academy now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 series.
Gunther was in the zone all game. He frustrated Asheville hitters while giving the Athletic Club KC Academy 8 innings of quality work. Gunther threw 117 pitches, allowing 5 hits and getting 4 punchouts.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Athletic Club KC Academy manager Brendan Andrews.
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday. The scheduled starters for the game are Sam Johnston for Athletic Club KC Academy and Alberto Ortíz for Asheville.
