Road Win Lifts Mercer Island to 2-1 Lead in R1
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Minnesota Loons on the road at Loony Bin by a score of 5-3. Screaming Eagles right-hander Lonnie Zavala was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 PL AA Championship.
It could have been a different outcome for Mercer Island, had it not been for Pedro Muńóz, the 21-year old center fielder . Muńóz contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning to put Mercer Island up, 1-0.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Mercer Island manager Marshall Edwards said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at Loony Bin in Blaine. Slated to start are Théo Picard for Mercer Island and Melchor Morse for Minnesota.
