Nobles Edge Humpbacks 5-4 to Open R1
|
The Bakersfield Nobles faced a tough opponent in Alaskan Humpbacks pitcher Jesús Silva, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the PL AAA Championship, which they now lead 1-0. The Nobles won 5-4 at Sea World, despite the Humpbacks getting a strong start from right-hander Silva, who went 5 innings and allowed 1 earned run.
Bakersfield used the timely hitting of John Mayasich to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nobles ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Mayasich.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Eugene. Slated to start are Ingo Abresch for the Bakersfield Nobles and Sasheer Zamata for the the Alaskan Humpbacks.
