Almost There: Hollywood On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 4-3 Win
|
The Hollywood Shredders went into extra innings against the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids but ultimately moved to within one game of the Round 2 today.
The Shredders downed the Rainbow Mermaids at Atlantica by a score of 4-3. Even as his squad took the loss, Northern Virginia right-hander Eddie Kop was named player of the game for a solid outing in which he threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. The win gives the Shredders a - advantage in the best-of- Silver League Championship.
Hollywood used the timely hitting of Scott Kerin to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Shredders on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were a little off-kilter to start the series, but we're getting things figured out now," Hollywood manager Bill Cheese told reporters. "At least I hope we are."
