Almost There: Boston On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 9-1 Win

The Boston Patriots moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Mississippi Mockingbirds on the road at Magnolia Park by a score of 9-1. Patriots catcher Freddy Díaz was named player of the game after he was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win gives the Patriots a - advantage in the best-of- Round 1.
The result might have been different for Boston, had it not been for Roland Deschain, the two-time Gold Glove winner . Deschain stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put Boston up, 2-0. For the game, he had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Things aren't going great right now," Mississippi manager Beau Carsten said. "But you don't need me to tell you that."
