The Hollywood Shredders started the Silver League Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Oakland Oaks at Oakland Coliseum by a score of 9-4 to take an early - lead in the best-of- series. Shredders third baseman Guillermo Coss was named player of the game after he was 4-5 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2.

Cecil Nelson had a chance to do some damage in the bottom of the eighth. With Oakland trailing 9-1, Oakland had runners on 1st and 3rd. Nelson hit a sacrifice fly. But it was not enough. Oakland would not finish the comeback.
