Screaming Eagles Stymie Chesapeake, Take 5-1 Win
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles picked up a win at Mercer Island Grounds, knocking off the Chesapeake Continentals, 5-1. Starting pitcher James Lendell Basford, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Basford, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. Mercer Island goes to 65-37. The win puts them 5 games up in their division.

Emílio Ramírez had a big run-scoring triple for the Screaming Eagles in the bottom of the third inning. With Mercer Island leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Yan van der Meijden and stroked the triple to right. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 2-0.

"Enjoyed this one," Ramírez told the Mercer Island Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
