Grasshoppers Prevail, 5-4, Over Atlantic City
|
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers defeated the Atlantic City Sonics, 5-4, at Sonics Ballpark. San Bernardino second baseman Rod Sarkies was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. Tracy Cowdin, the winner, improved to 7-7. He held the Sonics to 1 earned run on 3 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Juichi Kanno got the save, the 8th for him this season.
The result might have been different for San Bernardino, had it not been for Vitorio Flores. The catcher produced a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put the Grasshoppers ahead, 2-1. For the game, Flores had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Flores said.
The Grasshoppers now have a record of 52-49 with the win over Atlantic City.
