Grasshoppers Win at Chesapeake, 2-1
|
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers did just enough to sneak past the Chesapeake Continentals, 2-1, at Chesapeake Grounds. San Bernardino pitcher Jordan Guérin earned player of the game honors. Guérin, now 6-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. Chesapeake's current losing streak is now 5 games.
San Bernardino used the clutch hitting of Travis Towns to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Grasshoppers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Guérin. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
