Shooters Turn Back Chesapeake, 4-2
|
The Chesapeake Continentals got a superb performance from pitcher Shaun Stroud. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Springfield. The Shooters won the game, 4-2. In spite of the loss, Stroud was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball. Springfield reliever Georgy Gilyazitdinov was the winner. His record is now 5-7. The losing pitcher was Shaun Stroud. Aletona Kylie, credited with the save, is now 3 for 4 in save opportunities.
Had Albert Williamson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Williamson hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Shooters.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Springfield manager Decheng Sun.
The last-place Shooters are now 34-61, the Continentals 36-59.
