Sonics Jolt Hops with Late Rally

The Atlantic City Sonics racked up a win at Hops Park, bumping off the Yakima Hops, 5-3. Robert Smith, who started for Atlantic City, pitched effectively for his team. Atlantic City reliever Ken Kimberlin picked up the win to move to 1-0. Arturo Santiago suffered the loss. Ales Kretky earned the save, his 1st, for the Sonics.
Atlantic City used the timely hitting of Bill Stanton to capture the win. The pinch hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Sonics ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was an important one.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Stanton told the Atlantic City Chronicle. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
The Sonics, at 48-36, have now won 4 straight.
