Fans who came to Sheridan Forest watched the Amarillo Warheads and the Sheridan Deer fight to the finish.
Amarillo beat Sheridan at Sheridan Forest, eking out a 2-1 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Steve Hernández, who earned player of the game honors. Hernández went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-4. Getting the save was Lester Broughton, his 9th.
Amarillo used the timely hitting of Gary Pueblo to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Warheads on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Sheridan skipper Scott Alexander, "and it cost us."
The Warheads saw their record improve to 37-26.
