Beavers Knock Off Deer, 8-7
|
The Northwest Territory Beavers defeated the Sheridan Deer, 8-7, at Sheridan Forest. Matt Dunlap was named player of the game for Northwest Territory. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 triple, in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Cecil Drabek, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 3-6. Gonzalo Garibay closed it out for his 1st save.
Northwest Territory used the clutch hitting of Martín Pliego to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Beavers ahead, 6-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
In postgame comments to the Northwest Territory Citizen, Dunlap said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
With the victory, the Beavers record now stands at 25-26.
