Elephants Come Back Late to Clip Snowpeople

The Gibtown Elephants took Ellesmere Island pitcher Hildo van Doorn's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Igloo. The final score had Gibtown getting past the Snowpeople, 3-2. van Doorn went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 7. Gibtown is now 18-31, Ellesmere Island 19-30.
Gibtown used the timely hitting of Rafael Riquelme to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Elephants ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Enjoyed this one," Riquelme told the Gibtown Observer. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
