U-21 Rally For Late Win Over Submarinos
|
The U-21 had to overcome a fine performance from Amarillo pitcher Sung-tae O to grab a 3-2 win at Ballpark of Elkhorn City. O allowed no earned runs over 6 innings. Athletic Club KC reliever Alex Adshead was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Mutu Kirra. The U-21 raised their record to 18-20.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Mike Welch came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Amarillo pitcher Mutu Kirra, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Athletic Club KC on top, 3-2.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Welch told the Athletic Club KC Daily.
