Snowpeople Need Extras to Top Uruguayans
|
Conditions were not ideal but Ellesmere Island and Germantown were able to put their game in the books.
The Germantown Uruguayans got a superb performance from pitcher Manuel Villanueva. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Ellesmere Island. The Snowpeople won the game, 7-4. In spite of the loss, Villanueva was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 4 runs. Millard Whipp got the save, the 5th for him this season.
Ellesmere Island used the timely hitting of Qi-zhen Shen to capture the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Snowpeople on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
Shen expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
With the win, the Snowpeople improved to 9-19.
