Shockers Curb Fire, 7-1

The Surprise Shockers beat the Franklin Fire, 7-1, at Lawmen Ballpark. The Shockers got a fine performance from designated hitter Spencer Maddox, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times. Phil Waasdorp finished to wrap up his 2nd save. The Shockers bumped their record to 46-40 with this latest triumph.
Surprise used the timely hitting of Bob Byrd to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Shockers on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Maddox told the Surprise News.
