The Greenport Harbor Whales knocked off the Gibtown Elephants, 9-2, at Ballpark of Robbins. Damon Cross was named player of the game for Greenport. He hit 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 3 runs. José Gómez, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 5.2 innings. At 2-0, the Harbor Whales have played well so far.
With Greenport leading 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Cross came up to bat against Gibtown pitcher Ki-tong Teoh. Cross hit a fastball to left-center for a bases-clearing double. His 1st double of the season put the Harbor Whales on top, 6-0.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Greenport manager Fernando Mendoza.
