Shockers Sneak Past Fire, 5-4
The Surprise Shockers wiggled past the Franklin Fire, 5-4, at ďAbbots Ballpark. Surprise pitcher Claude Khatoon earned player of the game honors. With the win, the Shockers have a record of 34-31.

The Fire had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Shockers going into the bottom of the 14th inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old second baseman Mark Fontenot came to the plate. Fontenot hit a run-scoring single on a first pitch cutter from Franklin hurler Myung-chor Chong. It was Fontenot's 60th hit of the year.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Surprise field general Sherwood Baker.
