The Surprise Shockers faced a tough opponent in Franklin pitcher Biff Pocoroba, but did just enough to pull out the victory at ïAbbots Ballpark by a final score of 2-1. Pocoroba went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Tim Eastham recorded his 9th save for Surprise. The Shockers improved to 33-31.

Ernest Lesley found himself in a pressure situation in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Franklin hurler Gan Hui, the 19-year-old third baseman reached on an error by the 2B, driving in 1 run. His 30th RBI of the season put the Shockers on top, 2-1.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Lesley.
