Makepeace Slugs Fire to 9-7 Win
The Franklin Fire beat the Surprise Shockers, 9-7, at ïAbbots Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of third baseman Zak Makepeace, who captured player of the game honors. He belted 3 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored three times. Franklin reliever Myung-chor Chong was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ray Hart took the loss. The 9th-place Fire raised their record to 8-15.

Franklin took a 9-7 lead on Makepeace's 6th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Ray Hart in the top of the seventh, propelled Franklin to the win.

Makepeace expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
