Biscuits Come Back Late, Nip Rhinos
|
The Montgomery Biscuits and Redwood Rhinos put on a pitchers' duel at The Zoo.
Redwood wasted a solid 7.1-inning effort from starting pitcher Bjorn Hondelink, losing to Montgomery, 2-1, at The Zoo. Shem Burkholder, the winner, improved to 4-1. He held Redwood to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Beau Stroud came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Redwood pitcher Paul Wickers, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Montgomery on top, 2-1.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Redwood skipper Kyle Myers, "and it cost us."
The 4th-place Biscuits raised their record to 12-10.
