Hounds Subdue Surprise, 4-2

The Surprise Shockers got a superb performance from pitcher Rafael Martínez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Hicksville. The Hounds won the game, 4-2. In spite of the loss, Martínez was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Glenn Underwood got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings. Emilio Linger earned his 4th save in 6 tries.
The Shockers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hounds going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old shortstop Hiroshige Yamada came to the plate. Yamada hit a run-scoring single on a 0-1 fastball from Surprise hurler Rafael Martínez. It was Yamada's 25th hit of the year.
"It feels good to get this one," Yamada told the Hicksville News.
The Shockers, now 3-11, continue their poor start.
