Rainbow Mermaids Score Late, Upend Patriots, 3-2
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids eked out a 3-2 win versus the Boston Patriots at Atlantica. Nobody did more than pitcher Noe Toepfer, who captured player of the game honors. It was the 11th win in 14 games this year for the defending champion Rainbow Mermaids, who are picking up where they left off.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Ryder Ringor came to bat in the bottom of the ninth. Facing Boston pitcher Tae-ho Ch'oe, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Northern Virginia on top, 3-2.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Ringor. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
