The Shredders had to overcome a fine effort from Buffalo pitcher Zhao-ji Qiu to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Beyond the Wall. Qiu went 9 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. David Buchanan was the winning pitcher. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed no runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 6 strikeouts. An Jang-Yop earned the save for Hollywood, his 2nd.
The result might have been different for Hollywood, had it not been for Chris Payling. The right fielder produced a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Shredders ahead, 1-0. For the game, Payling had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Payling said.
Hollywood is now 16-11, Buffalo 13-14.
