BC Squelch Evergreens Offense in Shutout Win
Philadelphia 1776 right-hander Elroy Thompkins was sensational in shutting out the Portland Evergreens, 5-0. Thompkins, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing no earned runs. The BC, now 9-4, have been on a roll in the early going.

Philadelphia 1776 took a 2-0 lead on Eddie Sachs's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Sachs hit in the top of the seventh, left Portland pitcher Robert Smalls shaking his head.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Sachs.
