Gold Sox Top Walleye, 8-6
|
Walla Walla got a terrific game from catcher Ronald Hancock. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Chicago, 8-6. Hancock was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Chicago reliever Foeke Advocaat picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Chris Rice was saddled with the loss. Chicago is 42-51 and Walla Walla, with the loss, 46-47.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Gil James to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Gold Sox the lead, 8-6. For the game, James had 2 singles and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We got the victory," said James. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
