Delaware 1787 BC starter Gaberiela Tatafu turned in a sterling performance against the Galesburg Guzzlers, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Reliever Arthur Furber picked up the win. His record improves to 2-3. Mario Fuentes took the loss. The last-place Guzzlers have lost 18 straight games.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Gene Payne came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Galesburg pitcher Jack Harvey, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Delaware on top, 2-1.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Tatafu said in his postgame press conference.
