Fans who gathered at Alameda Field saw a good contest between the York Revolution and Alameda Airmen.
The York Revolution did just enough to sneak past the Alameda Airmen, 2-1, at Alameda Field. York pitcher Rainer Polonius earned player of the game honors. Polonius, now 4-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Walt McPike earned his 6th save in 8 tries.
York used the timely hitting of Dave Summers to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Revolution on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Rainer did a tremendous job," said York manager José Reyes.
York is 40-39 and Alameda, with the loss, 45-34.
