Smokies Shut Out Hotspur U-21
|
The Tennessee Smokies got a strong performance from pitcher Dan Stokes, who stymied the Phoenix offense en route to a 1-0 win at Hotspur Kiddie Complex. Stokes, now 6-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. José Stanley was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 19 save opportunities.
Tennessee right fielder Jorge Indiano helped his team take an early lead. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he grounded out, driving in 1 run.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Phoenix skipper William Smith, "and it cost us."
The Smokies raised their record to 36-54.
