Arryns Fall Short, 3-2, at Phoenix
|
Lake Erie got a terrific performance from pitcher John Fleming, but it wasn't enough to beat the Phoenix Hotspur U-21. Phoenix won the Hotspur Kiddie Complex contest, 3-2. Fleming was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Lúcio Salas notched his 19th save in 24 chances. The Hotspur U-21, at 44-38, sit in 5th place in the Silver A.
The Hotspur U-21 got a big at-bat from designated hitter Gabriel Méndez. For the game, Méndez was 1-3 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 14th double of the season gave Phoenix a 3-0 lead.
"We were in it," said Lake Erie manager Donald Hutchinson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
