Chiefs Score Late to Upend Generals, 7-6
|
The Caldwell Chiefs stopped the Washington Generals, 7-6, at Washington Park. The Chiefs got a big game from Ricardo Urby, who was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Reliever Rens Verheijen picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. John McNeill took the loss. Juan Colón earned the save for Caldwell, his 3rd of the year.
The outcome might have been different for Caldwell, had it not been for Elias den Blick, the 21-year old third baseman . den Blick stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Caldwell up, 7-6. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Chiefs manager Hugh Harris. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The winning streak has now reached 6 games for the Chiefs.
