Victory Over Expos Takes Caldwell to 49-24
|
Niagara Falls shortstop Junya Furuya was sensational. He was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Caldwell beat the Expos, 6-4. Furuya was named the player of the game despite the loss. Cristián Reyes got credit for the save for Caldwell. It was his 1st of the year. Caldwell goes to 49-24. The win puts them 3˝ games up in their division.
In the bottom of the 6th, right fielder Miguel Contreras gave Caldwell the lead when he hit a 2-run home run. The Chiefs had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out home run off Niagara Falls pitcher Maximiano Agostinho changed that -- and Caldwell went on to win.
In postgame comments to the Caldwell Chronicle, Contreras said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
