Storm Bridle Expos, 3-1
|
The Syracuse Storm got a magnificent performance from pitcher Sterling Wheeler, who muffled the Niagara Falls offense en route to a tight 3-1 Storm win at Waterfall Park. The winning pitcher was Wheeler, now 6-2. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 11. Alex Calhoun finished the game for Syracuse and earned his 3rd save.
Syracuse used the timely hitting of John Billings to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Storm on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"I like what I saw today," said Syracuse manager Theodore Johnston, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
Syracuse is 30-21 and Niagara Falls, with the loss, 24-27.
