Smokies Deal Hawks Painful Loss
|
The Tennessee Smokies did just enough to sneak past the Laredo Hawks, 3-2, at Smokies Stadium. Tennessee pitcher Chao Khu earned player of the game honors. The winner was Joe Gram in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Pablo Sánchez took the loss. Tennessee is now 21-30, Laredo 24-27.
The Smokies were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Miguel Silva turned a 1-2 cutter from Pablo Sánchez into a 2-run double. The walk-off double sent a roar through the crowd and gave Tennessee a thrilling 3-2 win.
"This place was rockin'," Silva said.
