Hotspur U-21 Clip Smokies in Tight Contest
|
The losses keep piling up for the Tennessee Smokies.
The Tennessee Smokies wasted an impressive 5.2-inning effort from starter Greg Hodge, falling 2-1 to the Phoenix Hotspur U-21 at Hotspur Kiddie Complex. Phoenix reliever Javier Fierro picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Marc Olsen took the loss. Getting the save was Lúcio Salas, his 12th.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Hotspur U-21 sent 22-year-old left fielder Jesse McCoy to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and grounded out, driving in 1 run, to put Phoenix on top, 2-1.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said McCoy.
The losses continue to add up for Tennessee, which has now fallen 8 times in a row.
