Loss to Arryns Extends Eugene Losing Streak
Patrick Smythe never let Eugene get something going. The Lake Erie right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Arryns to a 4-1 win. The winning pitcher was Smythe, now 3-3. He tossed 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2. The last-place Vandals have lost 22 consecutive games.
Lake Erie used the timely hitting of Mike Branch to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put the Arryns on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Branch.
