Losing Streak Continues for Vandals with 5-1 Loss to Hotspur U-21
Umebayashi Naofumi never let the Vandals get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the Hotspur U-21 to a 5-1 win. The last-place Vandals have lost 17 straight games.

The Hotspur U-21 got a lift from catcher Gilberto Ortíz, who in the bottom of the fifth stroked a first pitch fastball into right for a 2-run single. It was his 29th hit of the season and put the Hotspur U-21 ahead, 3-1.

"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Eugene manager Roger Sánchez.
