The Tennessee Smokies eked out a 2-1 win versus the Niagara Falls Expos at Smokies Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Dan Stokes, who captured player of the game honors. Stokes, now 3-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 10, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. José Stanley recorded the save for Tennessee, his 4th of the season.
The Smokies got a big at-bat from center fielder Fraser Childs. For the game, Childs went 1-3. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 27th hit of the season gave Tennessee a 2-1 lead.
"I try to not think too much," said Stokes.
The Smokies are now 16-18, while the Expos fall to 12-22.
