Smokies Solve Generals, 4-3
|
The Washington Generals got a superb performance from pitcher César Hernández, but the Tennessee Smokies still won the game, 4-3. Hernández was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. Sang-yeon Soung, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. José Stanley recorded the save for Tennessee, his 3rd of the season.
The Generals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Smokies going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old second baseman Gonzalo Quintanilla came to the plate. Quintanilla hit a 2-run single on a 1-2 changeup from Washington hurler César Hernández. It was Quintanilla's 28th hit of the year.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Washington skipper Desmond Woodford.
The Smokies sit in 8th place in the Silver A with a record of 15-18.
