Expos Take Nail-Biter Over Hawks
|
Laredo right fielder Eddie Neef had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Neef was 4 for 6 with a double, 3 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once, even as Niagara Falls beat the Hawks, 4-3. Neef was named the player of the game despite the loss. The win puts the Expos at 7-13, while the Hawks drop to 9-11.
Niagara Falls took a 4-3 lead on Junya Furuya's 4th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Furuya hit in the bottom of the 16th, left Laredo pitcher Arvid Alberink visibly frustrated.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Laredo manager Lou Boone.
