It was a fun time at Hawks Field, where the Eugene Vandals and Laredo Hawks tangled.
The Laredo Hawks picked up a win at Hawks Field, knocking off the Eugene Vandals, 4-2. Starting pitcher Miguel Núñez played a key role in the triumph. Núñez got the win, improving to 1-2. He allowed 7 hits and walked 0 over 6 innings. Núñez allowed 1 earned run.
The Vandals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Hawks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old catcher Robby Long came to the plate. Long hit a 2-run single on a 2-0 fastball from Eugene hurler Nick Cole. It was Long's 11th hit of the year.
"I thought we played a nice game," Long told the Laredo Herald. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
The defending champion Hawks are off to a horrible start to the season, notching only their 4th win in 11 games.
