The exploits of third baseman Billy Dotson, who is tied for 9th in the PL in hits with 123, helped the Portland Evergreens defeat the Greenville 84s, 6-1. Dotson went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Raúl Romero notched his 21st save in 23 chances. Portland is second in the Premier League with a record of 66-42.
The Evergreens got a big at-bat from right fielder Fernando Soto. For the game, Soto was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 15th double of the season gave Portland a 3-1 lead.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Soto told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
