Expos Drop Storm with Late Score
|
The Niagara Falls Expos put one in the win column with an opening day 2-1 triumph over the Syracuse Storm. The crowd at Waterfall Park watched Curt Pless put on a fine performance, for which he was named player of the game. Niagara Falls reliever Bonifacio Navarro picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Kohei Nishikawa took the loss.
Had Frank Tatum not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Tatum hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Expos.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Niagara Falls manager Terry Stokes. "Our pregame was pretty good."
