Evergreens Clip 84s, 5-4
|
The Portland Evergreens topped the Greenville 84s by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter John Schaefer. Schaefer was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Evergreens on the day. The winner was Portland reliever Ron Rouse, now 1-2. The loser was Neil Franson. With the victory, the Evergreens record now stands at 65-41.
Schaefer had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-2 fastball from Neil Franson, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Evergreens a 5-4 lead. It was the 28th home run of the year for Schaefer.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Schaefer said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
