Mancelona turned a good effort from starter Larry Walsh into a win over the Columbia River Rats at Columbia Stadium. The final score was 6-1. Walsh, the winner, moves to 4-7. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Even with the win, the Torch have a dismal 25-52 record.

Jared Schneider had a big 2-run single for the Torch in the top of the sixth inning. With Mancelona leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Jason Skinner and stroked the single to left-center. It was his 70th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Torch ahead, 4-1.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Schneider told the Mancelona Citizen.
