Screaming Eagles Win Thriller, 4-3
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Chesapeake Continentals at Mercer Island Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Raimo Kangas, who captured player of the game honors. The winner was Lonnie Zavala in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Mac Hippenhammer took the loss. The Screaming Eagles, at 25-12, lead by one game in their division.
Mercer Island took a 4-3 lead on Fernando Flores's 3rd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Flores hit in the bottom of the tenth, left Chesapeake pitcher Mac Hippenhammer visibly frustrated.
Flores said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
