The Philadelphia 1776 BC got a stellar performance from pitcher Elroy Thompkins, who handcuffed the Northern Virginia offense en route to a 6-2 win at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. Thompkins, the winner, moves to 4-13. He threw 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. Philadelphia 1776 is now 39-58.
The BC got a big at-bat from first baseman Karl Blanke. For the game, Blanke went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Philadelphia 1776 a 5-2 lead.
