Gonzáles goes 3-for-3, Sonics Move to 18-6
|
The Atlantic City Sonics beat the Chesapeake Continentals, 8-4, at Chesapeake Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Tim Gonzáles, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Nick de la Fuente earned the win for Atlantic City. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 3-1. The Sonics, now 18-6, have won 11 in a row.
Had Gonzáles not come through in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Gonzáles hit a 2-run single. The Sonics never looked back after taking the 6-4 lead.
"I wouldn't want to be playing us right now," said Atlantic City manager Juan López.
