Hops Shut Out Continentals
|
It was a fun time at Hops Park, where the Chesapeake Continentals and Yakima Hops tangled.
Yakima right-hander Marcos Salinas was sensational in shutting out the Chesapeake Continentals, 5-0. Salinas picked up the win for Yakima, going 6.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0.
The Continentals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hops going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old shortstop Pablo Pagán came to the plate. Pagán hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 changeup from Chesapeake hurler Yan van der Meijden. It was Pagán's 4th double of the year.
"We'll build on this win," said Pagán.
The Hops are off to a nightmare start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 7th win in 20 games.
